Last week, Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN) hosted an exciting “Shark Tank”-style entrepreneurship event as part of its afterschool programming. The event gave young participants across 7 Philadelphia district schools the opportunity to pitch their own business ideas in front of a panel, build confidence, and practice real-world presentation skills.
Throughout the program, students worked together to develop creative business concepts, think through challenges, and prepare their pitches. On the day of the event, they presented their ideas to a group of judges, who asked thoughtful questions and offered feedback—just like in a real business setting.
The event highlighted PYN’s focus on early career exposure and skill-building. By introducing youth to entrepreneurship, public speaking, and critical thinking, programs like this help young people explore potential career pathways and gain valuable experience.
In addition to pitching, participants had the chance to connect with peers, celebrate each other’s ideas, and reflect on what they learned. The energy in the room showed just how impactful hands-on, career-connected learning can be.
PYN continues to create opportunities like this to help young people build skills, explore interests, and prepare for their futures. Huge thanks the partners who made this event possible!
