Philadlephia - In 2011, Philadelphia was one of 24 cities selected around the world to receive a Smarter Cities® Challenge grant from IBM as part of their citizenship efforts to build a Smarter Planet™. This competitive grant program aims to help 100 cities around the world over a three-year period become smarter by addressing the wide range of challenges facing cities today – from urban agriculture to public safety – to improve the quality of life around the globe.
Philadelphia’s project, Digital On-Ramps, will connect Philadelphians to workforce training and education through digital technology. Currently, the project is in its “Discovery, Research, and Planning” phase. As one of six local partners, Philadelphia Youth Network will leverage collaborative relationships with youth workforce organizations to build support and buy-in for new education policy.
