PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN) will be receiving a $150,000 grant from JPMorgan Chase & Co. as part of its five-year, $20 million commitment to summer youth employment programs nationwide. This grant will go toward the Philly Summer Jobs Fund, which directly funds work opportunities for young people in Philadelphia through WorkReady Summer.

JPMorgan Chase’s Summer Youth Employment initiative spans across 24 cities and counties nationwide, including the Greater Philadelphia market. This $20 million commitment marks an increase of $3 million from its previous five-year allotment for summer youth employment. The company’s Summer Youth Employment initiative is part of the greater $350 million News Skills at Work investment, a five-year commitment dedicated to supporting non-traditional career pathway programs.

“At JPMorgan Chase, we are invested in using our resources to bridge the opportunity gap,” said Jac Rivers, Vice President, Program Officer, Global Philanthropy at JPMorgan Chase. “Summer youth employment opportunities are one step in preparing young people for the future of work and enabling them to benefit from the growing economy.”

As the Philadelphia economy rebounds from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, developing local talent as the future of the workforce has become a major focal point. WorkReady Summer employment programs allow young people in Philadelphia to gain essential skills needed to succeed in the modern workplace within a variety of industries, including technology, education, and more.

This year, PYN seeks to provide 8,000 young people with summer jobs through WorkReady Summer. The grant will help provide opportunities for young people by covering program operating costs for WorkReady program providers and compensation for youth participants, which has increased to $11 per hour (or roughly $1,000 total for incentivized programs) for 2022.

“We are grateful to JPMorgan Chase & Co. for their dedication to funding summer jobs and helping young people develop essential skills for success in school, work and life,” said Chekemma Fulmore Townsend, PYN’s president and CEO. “PYN will use this generous grant to pursue our shared goal of promoting equity in Philadelphia through education and employment.”
