Out-of-School Youth Programs Year-Round Out-of-School Youth Models. The Youth Council's
approach is to provide a continuum of services for
out-of-school youth designed to assist youth in attaining a
high school diploma or its equivalent, and viable employment
in a growth industry. This approach involves access to
comprehensive services and supports through comprehensive
program models that utilize referrals; build on the
expertise of organizations effectively delivering subsets of
services; and supplement alternative education models like
Educational Opportunities Programs with wrap-around services
and supports.
Pre-Education
A topic-based, experiential, and intensive Job Readiness
Training (JRT) and literacy-rich model that promotes basic
work readiness and work ethic, builds self-esteem, and
improved literacy and numeracy level gains. Upon successful
completion of the experiential learning experience,
participating youth are placed in viable employment and GED
or diploma programs, with an enhanced skill set.
Alternative School Expansion
Provide wrap-around services, in addition to the
comprehensive services provided in the accelerated programs,
to increase the likelihood of graduation and transition into
college, occupational skills and meaningful employment.
Immersion College Bound
To support out of school youth who are pursuing or have
obtained a GED in successfully transitioning to college and
meaningful employment.
Experiential Job-Readiness/GED
A topic-based, experiential, and intensive Job Readiness
Training (JRT) and literacy-rich model that promotes basic
work readiness, work ethic, and builds self-esteem with a
fully integrated GED program to prepare out-of-school youth
to pass the GED and enter viable employment.
Occupational Skills Training
Provide occupational and employer-driven skills training
while increasing individual participant’s academic skills
through participation in the appropriate basic or high
school level academic program including GED preparation.
Youth are also provided with intensive case management and
supportive services, and placed in jobs in growth industries
to more effectively serve out-of-school youth within the
adult employment and training system.
