Shadowing Day

Shadowing Day is a city-wide, one day mentoring opportunity for ninth grade students in the School District of Philadelphia to learn from positive professional role models.  Shadowing Day is part of WorkReady Philadelphia, a comprehensive, public-private partnership dedicated to building the regions future workforce.

Shadowing Day is an experience during which students are paired with employee mentors for a day to learn about their particular career. Students are encouraged to closely observe their mentor and ask questions in order to get a better understanding of their mentor's job. The aim is that the day will help change a student's employment and/or academic goals, which could ultimately change the student's life. Mentors involve students in their daily work routine that may include taking the students on the production line, into staff/client meetings, into the courtroom, etc. Students observe the workplace culture, including the dress code, employee interaction and the educational skills necessary for doing a good job.

Shadowing Day is a partnership among School District of Philadelphia, The United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and the Philadelphia Youth Network.
