General Description
The Director will be responsible for
advancing a multiple pathways to graduation agenda
specifically focused on the expansion of diploma
granting program options for out-of-school youth and
struggling students. In this capacity, the Director
will support both current and emerging program
options through the phases of research and design to
evaluation and expansion. The Director will engage
resources and expertise from various sources to
ensure the development of quality program options
for Philadelphia youth.
Essential Functions
- Development and promotion of a
broad-based multiple pathways to graduation
agenda
- Research best practice models and
strategies regarding academic programs for
overage, under-credit youth, those that are
out-of-school and at risk of dropping
- Convening of provider networks including
educators and administrators for information
sharing and peer networking opportunities
- Convening of key partners to provide
oversight for collaborative projects
including Learning to Work, Re-Engagement
Center and Bridge Programs
- Research and recommendation of new
program options
- Collaboration with PYN internal
departments for project management support
- Research and promotion of effective GED
and literacy instruction strategies
- Coordination of professional development
opportunities for service providers and
colleagues regarding progressive
instructional practices, curriculum and
pedagogy
- Oversight of subcontracts and consultant
agreements
- Management of grant budgets
Education, Experience & Skills Required
- Experience in middle/high school
education, curriculum, school/community
partnerships, youth development, and
school-based programs
- Experience with programs serving
"low-income" youth, out-of-school youth, and
those with academic challenges
- Abilities to manage budgets; evaluate
and analyze data; develop, implement and
assess innovative and engaging programs and
services; communicate effectively (in
writing and orally); work collaboratively
with not-for profit organizations, parents,
educators, school administrators,
post-secondary institutions, community
leaders and others
- A Master’s Degree with a minimum of
three years demonstrated experience in the
supervision of educational programs or youth
development initiatives; demonstrated
experience in program management and
planning and building school/community
collaborations
